Millets Bisibelebath – Delicious and healthy
Bisi bele bath is a Karnataka originated dish which mainly comprises of rice , lentils and veggies . Here I m trying to make this delicious dish more healthy by replacing rice with millets but its your choice you could still use rice.
Millets are the best low carb and high fibre foods to replace rice . It helps in weight loss , lowers blood sugar and cholesterol plus it’s gluten-free.
I am using proso millets but you can use any kind of millets like little ,kodo or foxtail millets.
[STEP 1]
1/2 cup proso millets washed and soaked overnight
1/4 cup toor dal washed and soaked for 1 hour
In a pressure cooker , add the soaked millets with 2 cups water and toor dal with the 1 cup ( total 3 cups of water goes into the cooker ) and add the below veggies :
5-6 beans
1/4 capsicum
2 tbsp Green peas
1/2 Carrot
Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Add 1/2 tsp salt or as required
It will be cooked in 4-5 to whistles
[STEP 2 – TAMADIND PASTE]
Soak one small tamarind piece in 1/4 cup hot water
[STEP 3 – BISIBELEBATH POWDER]
Meanwhile make your bisi Bele Bhath powder or you can use a store bought one . MTR’s bisi Bele bhath powder is supposed to be the best.
Dry roast the below ingredients :
-3/4 tsp chana dal
-3/4 tsp urad dal

Keep this aside
Again in the same pan add

Blend all the above into a fine powder
BISIBELEBHATHPOWDER IS READY
[STEP 4 – FOR TEMPERING ]
-1 Tbsp ghee

-A pinch of mustard seeds
-1 dry red chilli
-Few curry leaves
-A pinch of asafoetida
-Add the soaked tamarind juice ( squeeze the tamarind in the water to get all the flavour )
-Add the above tempering to the cooked millets , dal and veggies in the cooker
-Lastly add the prepared bisi bele bhath powder
