Maya is making the most satisfying Healthy Asian BBQ Sandwich with grilled shoyu koji beef, fermented kimchi, and sweet potato rolls baked from scratch (while in a super cute sheep onesie)! This flavor-packed asian fusion food recipe is simple, healthy, full of probiotics, and sugar free. Everything is homemade and from scratch.
Watch me have fun figuring out the tricky portable grill and putting my cooking skills to the test!
Shoyu Koji is a Japanese probiotic food made from only soy sauce and the enzyme, koji. It has amazing health benefits and tenderizes the toughest of meat when used as marinade, allowing us to use lean meats for recipes like this! This easy Shoyu Koji and Ginger marinade is LOW FODMAP, GERD friendly, and sugar free. I used eye of round and it turned out tender and flavorful. You can find Koji at a Japanese supermarket and some health food stores.
Kimchi is a spicy Korean fermented cabbage that goes great with barbecues as it adds flavor and a fresh crunch! It is often eaten with KBBQ or in bibimbap bowls. Kimchi is also a probiotic, so it promotes a healthy digestive system and gut. I made this Kimchi at home and will be posting a video about it so you can too! Otherwise, it is usually available at a local asian grocery store.
The sweet potato bread rolls were made using this recipe:
They turned out perfectly fluffy and satisfying — the best rolls I’ve ever had!
These rolls are are naturally vegan and I used an oil substitute to make them low fat. You can also sub gluten free flour if you would like.
Pair all these ingredients together for the ultimate asian fusion sandwich!
