Tapioca is healthy snacks for kids and also for adults. Tapioca is called as maravalli kizhangu in Tamil & Kappa Kilangu in Malayalam. Try this yummy recipe and share your feedback.
Ingredients:
Tapioca – 500 gm
Small onion – 10 (Chopped)
Green chilli – 3 (Cut vertically)
Garlic – 6 cloves (Peel & Crush them in a mortar)
Shredded Coconut – 3/4 cup
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard & Urad dal
Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt
Water
Method:
* Clean Tapioca in water to remove muds.
* Now Soak it for 1-1.5 hrs
* This helps to peel off the skin easily
* After soaking, make a vertical slit with 2 inches gap all over the tapioca
* Then cut it. It will be peeled off very easily
* After u peeled the skin, cut the top & bottom portion of the tapioca
* Cut the tapioca into half & add in a pressure cooker
* Add water till the tapioca is immersed & add required salt and turmeric powder
* Pressure cook it for 3 whistles
* If you are a beginner, cook in an open pot. Because the tapioca should not turn mushy
* Once the pressure released, crumble it with hands
* You can eat simply without crumbling also
* If you don’t that to crumble, then cut into pieces
* Heat a pan & add 2 tbsp of oil
* Add mustard & urad dal
* Add cumin seeds after it is spluttered
* Lower the flame & add crushed garlic
* Saute till the color changes
* Now add onion, green chilli & curry leaves
* Add required salt only for onions as we already added for tapioca
* Saute till the color turns pink
* Add crumbled tapioca and combine well
* Add shredded coconut & coriander leaves
* Mix well for 2 mins in medium flame
* Now it’s ready. Turn off the flame
* Serve hot with tea
