I started my small series of health related vlogs – for the first one I sat down with my mom, who is a professional chef, to talk about what it means to “eat healthy” and why she was quite strict about having a healthy diet when we were young.

As promised in the video, here is a simple recipe that anyone can make quickly:

CHIA PUDDING

I used to have a strong preference for savory breakfast until I recently started making homemade Chia breakfast jars.
Chia seeds are small black seeds from the plant “Salvia hispanica”, the seeds were an important food for the Aztecs and Mayans back in the day, in fact, “chia” is the ancient Mayan word for “strength”.
They provide sustainable energy, the warriors ate them when they walked long distances during war.
Chia seeds are full of antioxidants, rich in fiber, a good amount of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, iron and calcium.
If you research a bit you see for how many health conditions Chia seed might be beneficial.

This breakfast jar is delicious, very filling but not too heavy, you can vary it with all types of (dairy free) milk, fruits and other toppings.

It’s very easy to make, I usually prepare it right before I go to sleep. You can even make it in a hotel if you have a fridge in your room.

4 tablespoons of Chia seeds
5 tbs of rolled oats
1/2 cup of almond milk (or soy, hazelnut, oat..)
1 tbs honey
(frozen) berries
1/2 banana
cinnamon

– In a large cup, combine the Chia seeds and milk, stir a bit,
– add the oats, honey and a pinch of cinnamon, stir again shortly.
– In a large glass, place a small layer of frozen berries (about 2 tbs spoons of blueberries or raspberries for example)
– add the Chia mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

I usually make it right before going to bed and have it for breakfast the next morning.
When you take it out of the fridge, add sliced banana and another pinch of cinnamon.
Enjoy! 🙂

P.S also good with chocolate chunks, fig jam, raisins, nuts, peanut butter, goji berries….
