Moong dal khichdi recipe

Serving-2

Ingredients

Sorghum – 60 gm (1/4 cup)
Split green gram – 60 gm (1/4 cup)
Green Peas – 30 gm (1/4 cup)
Onion (Medium) – 80 gm (chopped)
Green pepper (medium) – 50 gm (chopped)
Tomato (Medium) – 60 gm (chopped)
Carrot – 10 gm (chopped)
Cucumber – 100 gm (grated)
Coriander leaves
Curd – 100 gm
Ghee – 1 spoon
Cumin seeds
Coriander powder (1 tsp)
Garam masala
Turmeric
Green chilli as per taste
Salt as per taste

Making of Jowar green gram khichdi
We are preparing this recipe for 2 servings. Single serving shall have quantities halved.
We shall need sorghum semolina for making this khichadi. If it is available in the market near you, you can purchase directly, soak 60 gm for 7 hours and make this khichdi. Else you can follow the methods described here.
Wash sorghum properly and soak overnight in water. Next day wash again and remove water and air dry in a plate, cloth or tissue paper for 20 minutes. Then grind it for 20 – 25 seconds and sorghum semolina is ready. Add it to a plate and remove outer layer of sorghum that is not grinded (if necessary).
If you take ¼ cup sorghum and make semolina as described, you may get little below a half cup sorghum semolina.
Wash the split green gram and keep ready.
Heat the pan, add 1 spoon ghee, cumin seeds and green chilli.
Then add chopped onions, once the onion are cooked, then add green peas. If you don’t have fresh green peas available, you can use frozen green peas. Cook 2 to 3 minutes.
Now add chopped capsicum, carrot and tomato, salt as per taste, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric, mix well. Cover and cook for 5 mins.
Now add sorghum semolina and split green gram, mix well and add 3 cups water. If you want thick paste then add 1/2 cup less water.
Stir well, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with raita.
To make raita, mix curd, grated cucumber, coriander leaves and add salt as per taste. If you want you may add green chilli for taste enhancement.
If you are making recipe in a clay pot, always put flame on low. This would preserve nutritional loss apart from increasing life of clay pot.
This is a very tasty healthy breakfast idea for your vegetarian meal plan.
