It is quite a task when it comes to packing lunch boxes for your little ones! Variety with taste is what they yearn for. Mothers are always looking at healthy school lunch ideas for their children. What is important is that the kids have food which is rich in fibers, iron, calcium etc. which is essential for their growth and mental development. Children of today’s generation have become fussy when it comes to their school lunch; therefore being creative by trying out novel ideas to fill up their colourful boxes has become imperative.
When it comes to preparing tiffin for your kids you need learn to “think out of the Box”. Try out different things which will make your child interested in eating a balanced diet. A sandwich can be boring, a child needs variety and nutrition. By the time your child gets to eat the tiffin it is midday. Their energy levels drop and they are hungry. So it is important to give then something that is appealing to the eye and stomach. When you plan for your child’s tiffin always remember to give a mix of finger foods as well as fruits. They need a good balance of proteins, vegetables and fruits to keep their mind active.
The trick here is to be prepared in advance and not get hassled early in the morning. Plan a day before or even better a week in advance so that the relevant ingredients are available at hand in your kitchen. Be creative and see the joy on your child’s face when he gets back from school.

1. Tasty pasta salad: The delicious pasta salad can make your mouth water! Try out this salad and mix in it up with some boiled chicken pieces olives, cheese crumbles, red tomatoes and vegetables of your choice. This would certainly be a lip smacking recipe for all the inquisitive kids!
2. Pizza Time: Talking of school lunch ideas, the pizza is an all-time favourite for not only the younger generation but also adults of all ages. Take some pizza sauce and spread it over the base. Also add some grated cheese on it and choose the toppings your child loves like –olives, pepperoni, onion sauce or just plain tomato sauce. Microwave this base for 1-2 minutes and the yummy pizza is ready to go into the lunch box!
3. The subcontinent flat bread (Roti): This is truly Indian! Fill your children’s lunch box with some healthy rotis and some mixed vegetable curry. This would give your kids all the nutrition that they require to keep them going throughout the day.

Carrots are great finger foods, try cutting up some up into sticks and putting in a handful in the tiffin.
