Air fried bhakarwadi with whole wheat
I would often wonder what makes people go crazy for bhakarwadi. Now I have the answer.
It’s one sumptuous treat that you can enjoy with your tea time and munch on at any time.
I am not somebody who would keep munching on things, but I am guilty of popping these crunchy munchies every now and then. I admit I have kept these savories on my work desk.

Why SAY NO to Deep Frying? Why is deep-frying unhealthy for our lifestyles?
Because deep frying can raise the risk of:
Ø Excess calorie intake
Ø High deposition of bad fat
Ø Rise in level of cholesterol
Ø Oxidative stress that can lead to cancer
Ø Digestive disorders
Ø Reduced oxygen level
Ø Body pain and inflammation
Given the high risk of deep-fried food on your health, it is best to avoid deep frying and look for alternatives. Here are a few healthier alternatives to deep frying:
Baking
Airfrying
Steaming
You’re Taking in Excess Calories
Deep fried food is high in trans fat and calories. When foods are deeply fried, they lose moisture and absorb fat from oil.
1 tsp of oil has almost 40 calories.
Imagine the amount of calories you take in when you fry food in oil.
Excess calories equal access fat accummulation.
Food for thought for sure!
You’re adding in trans fats
When you eat deep-fried food, you tend to raise the risk of trans fats in your body.
How?
When a food item is deeply fried, the chemical structure of oil changes. As a result, it gets difficult for your body to break down such fats.
This puts you at high risk of fat accumulation in the body, further increasing the risk of obesity, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.
If you choose to re-heat oil, you are only adding up the trans fat content.
According to a study, when oil is re-used for frying, there is excess nutrient loss.
You’re ingesting toxins
Acrylamide is a toxic substance that is found in deep-fried foods as a result of heating oil at high-temperature. This includes heating food in any form, including roasting, frying, and baking.
So what oil is healthy for baking, frying, and roasting?
Extra virgin olive oil comprises monounsaturated fats, which are relatively stable at high temperatures.
Even avocado oil shares similar properties.
Why Is Air-Frying Better?
Frying foods in an air fryer is a healthier option as hot air is responsible for cooking the ingredients. As a result, foods end up crispy outside and moist inside.
So this healthy snack from Maharashtra in the form of baked bhakarwadi is my experiment to make our Indian snacks healthy. I hope you try out the recipe of wheat bhakarwadi and share your feedback on this Maharashtra snack.
This is another of my healthy Indian airfryer recipes, but you can always bake in oven, otg, convection or cooker just like you bake biscuits.
