My easy whole wheat bread recipe! Whole wheat bread is tasty, more nutritious and wholesome and in general… drier, and sometimes more bland than a good artisan white bread. But it doesn’t have to be! My whole wheat bread recipe makes a moist flavorful loaf in just a couple of hours. This is a yeasted bread and one of the few times I knead a bread, but it’s worth it.
We don’t purchase bread or pasta in our house. We haven’t for several years now. There are just too many preservative and chemicals in store bought bread today. It’s all about shelf life instead of health and flavor. Sure, store bought breads will last longer before going stale, but… we don’t need all those preservatives. This bread recipe has no preservatives in it.
As always, whatever fresh bread you don’t use that day, wrap it up, put it in a freezer bag, and freeze it. It won’t stay fresh for long since there’s no preservatives in it. Whatever you do, don’t put it in the refrigerator, it will go stale in hours. To re-use frozen bread, just open the freezer bag and leave it at room temperature for a few hours or… bake at 250f for about 10 minutes or less. Comes out 90% as good as the day you baked it.
***This is an older recipe and does use white flour and butter. There will be a revised version without these ingredients to be more helthy!
