Ingredients for Sabzi Dal:
(Tsp-Teaspoon; Tbsp-Tablespoon)
– Toor Dal – 1 cup or 200 gms
Tempering:
– Green cardamom – 3
– Cinnamon- 2 small pieces
– Cloves- 4
– Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
– Bay leaf – 2 small (or 1 big cut)
Vegetables:
– Beans, cut into 1” pieces- 12-14 (1/2 cup)
– Carrot, cut into 1” pieces- 2 medium (1/2 cup)
– Green peas- 1/2 cup
– Tomato, chopped- 1 small (60 gms)
– Green chillies, slit- 2
Other Ingredients:
– Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
– Ghee – 2-3 tbsp
– Salt- 1 tsp or to taste
– Sugar- 1 tsp
Preparation:
– Soak the Toor Dal for 15-30 mins.
– Chop the tomato & shell the green peas.
– Cut the beans and carrots.
Process:
– Take a pressure cooker & heat the ghee.
– Add the whole garam masala & when it splutters, add the cumin seeds & bay leaf.
– Mix it well & add the chopped tomatoes.
– Sauté the tomatoes for 2-3 mins till soft.
– Add the cut vegetables, mix well and add salt & turmeric powder.
– Mix well & sauté for 3-4 mins.
– Drain the water from the Toor Dal & add the dal. Mix and sauté for 2-3 mins.
– Now add the slit green chillies and sugar, give a mix & add 600 ml water.
– Give a stir & close the pressure cooker. Pressure cook for 2 whistles, 1st one on high heat and 2nd on low heat. Should take around 7-8 mins.
– Allow the pressure to release completely before opening the pressure cooker.
– You can add little water if required but not much since the consistency of the dal should be thick.
