Ingredients for broken wheat upma:
Onion – 1/4 cup (Chopped)
Carrot – 1/4 cup (chopped)
Green Peas – 1/4 Cup
Salt – 1 tsp (adjust as needed)
Broken Wheat – 1 Cup
Water – 2 Cups
To temper for broken wheat upma:
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard – 1 tsp
Chana Dal – 1 tsp
peanuts – 1/4 cup
Green chilli -1 (chopped)
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Dry red chilli – 1
Instructions
First heat a pan with oil, add the mustard and once it splutters add all other ingredients listed under “To temper” in the given order.
Once the dals turn golden brown, add the onion and saute until the onion turns translucent.
Add the carrot, green peas, salt and saute for 2 mins.
Now add the broken wheat and saute for an additional 2 mins until a nice aroma arises.
Add 2 Cups of water, give a quick stir until the upma is cooked through. Turn off the flame.
Serve broken wheat upma hot with any south Indian gravy or chutney.
