Curd is made by mixing a carefully balanced blend of bacteria with warm milk and allowed to ferment for some hours. Bacteria converts the lactose to lactic acid and creates good bacteria in our gut. .

In a study, curd increased the short chain fatty acids called butyrate and there was significant decrease in this bad bacteria called Bilophila wasdworthia which causes Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
