Hello everybody! It’s Ilana, co-creator of the 2B Mindset! In today’s video, we are going to talk about my favorite foods – including chocolate!
00:11 What are my favorite food finds of 2017?
I love lupini beans. Lupine beans have been around for hundreds of years and come from Ancient Rome, but I only discovered them this year. They are a very low calorie, high protein, plant based bean. They’re also really high in fiber and they make good individual packs. The Individual packs have 60 calories per 7 grams of plant based protein. They’re shelf stable so I can keep them in my car, in my purse, throw them into salads. They are an amazing source of plant based protein; I am in love. I also love this Everything but the Bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s. If you follow me on Instagram, you see I use it almost every day, in omelets, stir-fry’s, and cauliflower rice. It makes everything taste like a delicious everything bagel.
00:58 Daily Sunshine came out this year and I love that because it tastes like a delicious milkshake the strawberry banana and the chocolate are both delicious. They are certified organic, 120 calories per 10 grams of plant based protein. They make the best snack, and the individual packets are awesome to keep with you wherever you are. I also love all the new sparkling waters like Perrier, La Croix, Polar, Zevia. There are so many brands now that make all natural sparkling waters, that are delicious, and satisfying, while still hydrating you.
01:31 Is chocolate really good for me?
The answer is coco; pure chocolate actually is really good for you. It’s high in antioxidants, high in fiber, and low in sugar, but a lot of people have milk chocolate where the first ingredient is milk, cream, or sugar. Coco is more of an afterthought; in that case you’re not getting those health benefits. I recommend if you are trying to choose a chocolate that is better for you, that you keep climbing up in percentage and look for a chocolate where coco is one of the first ingredients. I like to find chocolate that says 60%-70% coco because then I know it is probably lower in sugar, high in fiber, and high in antioxidants. That is why I love chocolate Shakeology because it has pure coco, but is also high in fiber and protein, and lower in sugar. It is a really purposeful way of curing a chocolate craving, which we all have sometimes.
02:30 How to stay healthy while on the go and traveling?
I travel a ton, so I totally get it. Preparation is key and I always say water first, veggies most. I always have water and veggies with me when I travel. A lot of people think that if you are traveling or on a road trip that you can’t drink water, but you should always pack you water with you. Start drinking your water 30-40 minutes before your stop so you know there is a bathroom nearby. When I take a flight I always bring an empty reusable water bottle and fill it up after security at a coffee shop or get a water bottle there. You want to make sure you stay hydrated and are always drinking water first before all your meals and snacks while you are on the go. For veggies most, I always bring veggies with me, there are a lot of veggies that are easy, portable, snack able, and don’t require washing or refrigerating for 1-2 days. I love mini cucumbers, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes, those are all really great ways to make sure you are eating veggies even while traveling. You can also pack some protein or fiber like hardboiled eggs, turkey packets, lupini beans, Daily Sunshine, and Shakeology packets. It is a great idea to think about your trip before you go and plan effectively so you can keep your health goals in mind and on track wherever you are.
