Ragi Simili balls, also known as Ragi Mudde or Ragi Balls, are a traditional South Indian dish made from finger millet flour (ragi). These nutrient-dense balls are rich in calcium, iron, and dietary fiber, making them an excellent choice for a healthy diet. The preparation involves cooking the ragi flour with water until it forms a thick dough, which is then shaped into balls. Often enjoyed with sambar, curries, or chutneys, Ragi Simili balls provide a hearty, wholesome meal that supports digestive health and offers sustained energy, making them a staple in many Indian households.
Ingredients :
Ragi flour – 1 cup
Roasted Peanuts – ½ cup
Jaggery – ½ cup
Sesame – 2 tbsp
Salt – 1 pinch
Method :
Take 1 cup of ragi flour with a pinch of salt in a bowl and mix well by sprinkling water gradually until it becomes crumbled. Wrap the ragi flour in a muslin cloth and steam for 10 mins. Then break the lump into flour and Cool and bring to room temperature. Meanwhile, roast the sesame seeds till a nice aroma is released and cracks. Slightly heat the roasted nuts remove the skin and keep aside.
Transfer the sesame seeds and peanuts into a mixer jar and make into a coarse powder, then add the cooked ragi and jaggery and grind further. Now the dough is ready. Shape the dough into ragi balls. Ragi Simili Balls can be stored for 3 days at room temperature.
