Kristi visits with Julie Brown, Warren County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development to talk about more ideas for healthy holiday snacks.
Some more fun holiday kid’s treats for today includes Reindeer treat, Apple Rings, and a Fruity Baguette. Having children in the kitchen can be messy at times but they are more likely to eat their creations since they had a role in creating it. For the Reindeer treats you will need celery, peanut butter, pretzels, chocolate chips, and raspberries. They will fill their celery full of peanut butter, break the pretzel to make antlers, add the chocolate chips as eyes, and finish with a red nose. For the apple rings, an adult will need to core the apple and slice it for the children. Once it is slice the kids can cover the apple ring in vanilla yogurt then they can start adding their toppings. These topping could include blueberries, strawberries, granola, coconut, pecans, and chocolate chips. The baguettes can be toasted or untoasted for this treat. Once an adult has sliced the baguettes, the kids can add cream cheese before adding their fruit mixture. This is kids’ choice again on fruits topping. After they have added their chopped fruit topping drizzle a little honey on top before serving.
