#SharingHealthyRecipes Blue corn mush is a staple traditional Navajo food. Stories of families gathering around the fire enjoying a hot bowl of blue mush go back generations. Blue corn mush also has many nutritional benefits such as calcium and iron.
The following recipe, which was used in the video, makes 15 servings. For a smaller gathering or family, simply cut all the ingredients in half.
INGREDIENTS: 10 cups water 1 Tbsp juniper ash 2 cups blue cornmeal 2 cups cold water
DIRECTIONS: In a pot, boil 10 cups of water. In a bowl, mix juniper ash into the 2 cups of cold water. Next, mix the blue cornmeal into the cold water – 1 cup at a time. Add the mixture to the boiling water and stir constantly. Keep stirring until thicken, 3-5 minutes. Top each serving with fruits and nuts. Add honey for sweetness.
