5-Minute Chocolate-Stuffed Toast
This quick and simple recipe is perfect for a sweet treat at the end of a meal or as a delicious snack!
Historical Fact:
Did you know the word “toast” comes from the Latin word “tostum,” which means “to burn” or “to scorch”? In ancient Rome, bread was often toasted to preserve it and make it more palatable, a practice that has been around for centuries!
Ingredients:
• 3 slices of wholemeal bread
• 15g 85% dark chocolate
• 1 egg
• 125ml semi-skimmed milk (or white kefir with no sugar)
• 10g butter
Notes:
• Folding: Be sure to press the edges of the toast firmly to ensure the filling doesn’t leak out during cooking.
• Cooking Method: While baking or air-frying is recommended, you can also pan-fry this with a little butter for a similar result.
Instructions:
1. Prep: Preheat your air fryer to 160°C (320°F) or your oven to the same temperature.
2. Hollow Out: Cut the crusts off the bread. Press down on the center of each slice to create a small hollow.
3. Fill: Place the dark chocolate in the hollow of each piece of bread.
4. Seal: In a small bowl, whisk the egg and milk (or kefir) together. Dip your finger in the mixture and lightly “paste” around the edges of the bread. Fold the bread over the chocolate, press it down, and close the edges firmly with your fingers or a fork.
5. Cook: Place the filled bread in the air fryer or on a baking tray. Cook for 5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
