We baked healthy scones during our schoeller family cooking show! #baking #healthy #family
Here is the recipe if you want to try them!
Dough:
2 cups flour
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 stick butter cubed
1 single serving cup greek yogurt
1 egg
1-3 tablespoons milk of choice
1 tablespoon vanilla
Frosting:
1 cup powdered sugar
1-3 tablespoons milk of choice
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
– Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
– Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
– Cut in cubed butter. I use my hands for this. You want it to be a crumbly mixture once the butter is all mixed in.
– In a separate bowl, mix egg, yogurt, milk and vanilla.
– Add the wet mixture into the dry mixture and mix until you have a dough. Do not over mix or the scones can end up too tough.
– Remove dough from bowl and flatten on a floured surface. You can pat with your hands or use a roller. You want the dough to be about ½ inch thick.
– Cut dough into whatever shapes you would like. Triangles or circles are the traditional shapes but we did hearts and rocket ships.
– Place cutouts on a greased baking sheet.
– Bake for 10-14 minutes depending on thickness of your scones.
– While they are baking, make your frosting by mixing the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla.
– Frost scones after removing from oven. I like to frost the scones while they are still warm.
