Ingredients
● 1 block tofu (cut into 4 pieces)
● 1 cup breadcrumbs
● ½ cup slurry (mixture of cornstarch, water, and spices)
● Salt and pepper – to taste
● Butter – as needed
● Chili flakes – to taste
● Pepper powder – a pinch
● Chopped cilantro – 2 tbsp
● Mayonnaise – ¼ cup
● Honey – 1 tbsp
● Red chili powder – 1 tsp
● Cheese slices – 4 nos.
● Tomato slices – 4 nos.
● Burger or slider buns – 4 nos.
Instructions
1. Prepare the tofu:
– Cut the tofu into 4 equal pieces.
– In a bowl, make a slurry using cornstarch, water, and your choice of spices.
– Add salt and pepper to season.
– Dip each tofu piece into the slurry, ensuring an even coating.
– Roll the coated tofu in breadcrumbs until fully covered.
2. Fry the tofu:
– Heat oil in a pan and deep-fry the tofu pieces until crisp and golden brown.
– Set aside on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
3. Toast the buns:
– On a tawa or pan, toast the buns with butter, chili flakes, pepper powder, and chopped cilantro until lightly golden.
4. Make the sauce:
– In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, red chili paste (or powder), salt, and pepper to create a flavorful spread.
5. Make the glaze:
– Melt butter and mix it with honey, red chili powder, and a pinch of salt.
– Brush this glaze over the fried tofu for a sweet-spicy finish.
6. Assemble the sliders:
– Spread a layer of the mayonnaise sauce on the bottom bun.
– Place a crispy tofu piece on top.
– Add a slice of tomato and a slice of cheese.
– Brush some glaze on top of the tofu and cheese.
7. Bake:
– Sprinkle chopped cilantro on top.
– Bake the sliders in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 5–10 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the tops are lightly crisp.
