Karuppu Kavuni Kanji is a powerhouse breakfast made using ancient Black Kavuni Rice — packed with antioxidants, fibre, iron, and energy. This traditional Tamil recipe gives a rich purple colour, natural sweetness, and long-lasting fullness. Perfect for weight loss, immunity, and overall wellness.
🥣 Ingredients
Karuppu Kavuni Rice – ½ cup
Water – 3 cups
Milk / Coconut Milk – ½ cup (optional)
Jaggery – 2–3 tbsp (adjust as needed)
Cardamom Powder – ¼ tsp
Salt – a pinch
Grated Coconut – 2 tbsp (optional)
Nuts (cashew/almond) – optional
👩🍳 Instructions
Wash the Karuppu Kavuni Rice well and soak it overnight (8 hours).
Drain the water and add new water (3 cups).
Pressure cook for 6–7 whistles until soft and mushy.
Mash the cooked rice lightly.
Add jaggery and allow it to melt.
Mix in milk or coconut milk.
Add cardamom powder and grated coconut.
Cook for 2 more minutes and switch off.
Serve warm.
