A delicious warm drink which helps to relieve tiredness and stress. please make sure to use the Ashwagandha with all the ingredients mentioned as it tends to be bitter on its own. The above mentioned recipe masks the taste of Ashwagandha and makes it palatable.
The first month hit us hard in my part of the world and I had the whole family down with a nasty flu which sucked the energy out of us. And I have been fighting my own struggle with the low energy. So thought of Sharing a recipe which I have been making to boost the energy. This is a stress reliever and helps boost your energy particularly after feeling run down from any bug or dealing with chronic tiredness.
Let’s call it a warm smoothie ! It’s a blend of a few things with an adaptogen. An adaptogen is an herb which adapts to t he requirements of your body. Ashwagandha which I am using here can help with hormone imbalance, unexplained fatigue, chronic stress and improving your immunity. The drink is heavy on calories and sweetness, but as I said it is to get your energy level up through good healthy and nutritious ingredients. And to see the benefits of an adaptogen you always need to use for a atleast a few weeks. And also don’t make it a regular in your diet. It is a herbal medicine so treat as one and use it till you need it and then move on.
And yes it is high in sugar due to the raisins in them. But you definitely need it for this recipe to make the Ashwagandha palatable. And raisins are also power packed with lot of nutritional benefits
Ingredients for two large cups.
1 peels carrot chopped,
a handful of almonds,
a handful of raisins. ( Try to use the raisins with seeds. As they have more benefits. But if you can’t find them just use regular organic raisins)
2 tsps of Ashwagandha powder
Cook or boil the carrots in a cup of water with nuts and raisins till the carrots get soft. Throw everything in the blender and add 1/2 tsp of cardamom powder and a pinch of saffron. Both for it’s health and flavor benefits. Add a cup of milk, sub with nut milk if you are dairy free. And blend it really well.
Dilute it further with hot milk or hot water further making sure to have atleast 2 big cups of it. You can warm further if you like it hot but in that case add the Ashwagandha at the end and not before boiling. Don’t reduce the amount if ingredients as the taste of Ashwagandha will not be palatable !
It is safe to serve even to the kids. But as always I am not a certified practitioner, so please check with your Dr depending on your medical condition. Hope this recipe helps you as much as it does my family.
Please note that I am not a qualified nutritionist, ayurvedic practitioner or a therapist, the recipes here are put together out of my personal experience. Please check with your Dr before taking any herbal supplements or alternate medicines.
