Learn how to prepare Black Urad Dal Dosa. This is a no fermentation healthy dosa recipe.
Compared to white urad dal, black urad dal is rich in proteins and fiber and is very nutritious.

Ingredients
1 cup idli rice / pulungal raise
1 cup raw rice / pacharisi / sona masuri rice
½ cup black urad dal / karuppu ulundu
¼ ts fenugreek seeds/ vendayam (optional)
¼ cup poha / flattened rice / aval (optional)
For additional flavouring
½ ts dry ginger powder / sukku (you can also use fresh ginger) (but dry ginger powder gives a unique flavour)
1 ts cumin seeds / jeera
1 ts whole peppercorns
¼ ts hing / asafoetida
Few curry leaves
Notes
– You can increase black urad dal quantity upto 1 cup for 2 cups rice
– You can also use split black urad dal. Split black urad dal requires less soaking time. Whole black urad dal requires overnight soaking
– You can use this same batter for preparing idli too
– If preparing this batter for idli, avoid raw rice and increase idli rice to 2 cups
– For using this batter for idli, you can either ferment the batter or prepare instantly using eno fruit salt or baking soda
