Ingredients :
1) 1 tbsp oil+1 tbsp ghee
2) Boiled Water 4 cups
3) Rava(suji,semolina) 300 gms
4) Green chilly 4 (cut into pieces)
5) Ginger 1 tbsp grated
6) Cumin Seeds(Jeera) half tsp
7) Onion 1 big sized chopped finely
8) Tomato 1 small chopped finely
9) Mustard seeds 1 tbsp
10) Asafoetida half tsp
11) Split black gram(urad dal) 2 tbsp
12) Sugar 1 tsp
13) Salt as per taste
14) Coriander leaves for garnishing
15) Peanuts 2 tbsp
Tip : You can add vegetables of your choice like carrots,green peas, French beans etc.)
Method for Upma:
1) Heat one tbsp of ghee in a pan and roast semolina suji for 5-6 minutes until you get a little colour on it.Keep aside
2)Heat one tbsp oil + 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan. Then add split black grams and sauté until golden brown.You can add curry leaves too and saute for until golden brown
3)Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add onion, asafoetida,mix everything well.Close the lid till it becomes golden brown.
4)Open the lid after 2 mins, now add green chilly, tomato mix everything well. Now close the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes. (Meanwhile put 4 cups of water to boil.)
5)Open the lid after 5 minutes, add peanuts mix well ,then add semolina now, mix everything close the lid for 2 minutes.
6)After 2 minutes open the lid and add salt, sugar mix everything nicely. Now add the boiled water to it mix everything well.Close the lid and let it steam for couple of minutes until cooked properly.
7)Now open the lid after 5-10 minutes, mix everything nicely. You should get a nice thick consistency. If you are happy with the consistency of upma now, turn off the gas. Rava(Suji) Upma is now ready.
Garnish it with coriander leaves and server hot.
