Your weekend grocery run is due for an upgrade: Outdoor markets are back for the season across South Florida.
Find farm-to-fork produce, straight-out-of-the-oven pastries, just-squeezed juices and other goodies — along with live music, yoga sessions and culinary workshops that turn shopping into an event. Plus, they provide an opportunity to support our community’s growers, bakers, crafters and makers in one stop.
One fixture that draws weekend crowds is the West Palm Beach GreenMarket, which this year reclaimed the top spot in the annual USA TODAY 10Best “Best Farmers Market” Readers’ Choice poll. With this year’s theme — “The World, Right Here” — this popular event is bringing global flavors, traditions and culture to shoppers at the downtown waterfront.
“The GreenMarket has always been about bringing people together, and this year’s theme highlights how food, culture and community connect us all,” said Angela Poco, the city’s marketing and community events manager. “Whether you’re searching for ingredients from your family’s heritage or looking to try something completely new, you can experience an incredible variety of cultures and cuisines right here in West Palm Beach.”
In Jupiter, Charlie & Joe’s at Love Street has begun its new Events in the Heart, a series of themed markets with a view of the town’s historic lighthouse.
“Each event is designed to make Love Street a welcoming gathering place for both locals and visitors,” said Mark Lessing, executive vice president of Lessing’s Hospitality Group, which manages and operates the waterfront complex. “We want it to be a place where people can come together and feel connected to the community they call home.”
If you’re planning to stop by your city’s market, or want to branch out to stroll a new spot this season, we’ve rounded them all up in one handy guide. Here’s everything you need to know to shop this season.
