Appam recipe.
Main ingredients:
1. Idly rice – 200 gms
2. Raw rice – 200 gms
3. Urad Dal – 50 gms (1/4 cup)
4. Aval (Flattened Rice/poha) – 50 gms
5. Fenugreek – 2 table spoon
6. Salt – 1 pinch
Preparation of Batter :
Mix all the items except salt in a bowl and soak it for 3 hours, after that grind it by adding salt till it becomes like a Idly batter (soft). Leave it for 8 hours to properly get fermented.
Preparation of Coconut Milk:
Take a medium size coconut, grate it and grind it in the mixer grinder by adding 2 cups of lukewarm water and filter the milk. Repeat the same process twice to get enough milk. Add 100 gms of sugar in the coconut milk.
Making the Appam:
Now take 200 gms of Jaggery and melt it by adding very little water till it becomes a paste as shown in the video, then add the jaggery paste and 100ml of thick coconut milk and mix well. Then pour the batter in Appam tawa and rotate it as shown in the video.
Once appam is ready serve it with the coconut milk to get a healthy and delicious appam.
If you don’t want to make a sweet appam then adding Jaggery is not needed, you can do it with the plain batter.
