Healthy Frozen Yogurt recipes are easy and you can quickly make your own healthy yogurt at home with just raw milk and a small amount of another yogurt that serves as the starter culture or simple “starter” as some may call it. Yogurt or yoghurt – as some may spell it, is a very delicious recipe and many toppings can be added to it to increase the taste and flavor.
If you intend making yogurt without yogurt – that is, without a starter culture, or you want to make your own starter culture at home, then be sure to check my other Yogurt recipes playlists where I made yogurt without yogurt using red chili pepper, tamarind and lemon to make homemade starter culture before proceeding to make yogurt from them.
You don’t need a yogurt maker to make your homemade yoghurt.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR MAKING YOUR OWN YOGURT AT HOME
– RAW MILK: milk that can be gotten from goats, sheep, cows, or buffalo. In fact, any type of milk can be used in your yogurt recipe
– SUGAR to taste
– Starter culture: this is another yogurt that contains the bacteria needed to convert the milk to yogurt.
– PROBIOTICS: some people do add probiotics to their yogurt because of the health benefits. Adding probiotics to your yogurt helps to regrow the good bacteria in your gut. It is especially good for those with lactose intolerance where taking milk causes stomach discomfort. Taking probiotics yogurt prevents abdominal discomfort associated with taking milk. If you don’t have the probiotic tablets, you can still go ahead to make the yogurt just as I did in this video.
– FRUITS or SNACKS: some fruits such as strawberries, mango, apple, etc are often added to increase the taste and flavor of your yogurt recipe. Some people add snacks such as granola, oatmeal as toppings on yogurt. Whatever snack or fruit you love most, you can put in your yogurt recipe. Mixing the plain yogurt with these toppings increases the taste and makes it sweeter.
Other yogurt toppings include: Honey, Raisins, Cucumber, Dates
If you want to have the taste and consistency of Greek yogurt, all you need to do is to strain your yogurt after making it by using a sieve with very fine holes or a clean sack. Allow it to hang for some hours and you have your greek yogurt. It can be placed in a freezer to make it frozen; adding dessert to your frozen yogurt gives you a frozen yogurt – a perfect alternative to ice cream.
When heated properly and covered completely, yogurt takes about 3 months before expiring. Hence it has a shelve life of 3 months. The expiration date is 90 days from the date of production.
A 170g of nonfat (skim milk), greek yogurt contains about 100 calories.
Yogurt and Curd are not the same. Yogurt is produced by the action of some special bacteria that act on milk at a special temperature to convert the milk into yogurt. These bacteria are healthy and beneficial to our gut.
Whereas Curd is the product formed by modifying the protein found in milk. This has no healthy bacteria and is simply formed by adding lemon, vinegar, or any lactic acid containing the substance. Curd is therefore high in protein.
