This easy upma made from brown rice is highly nutritious and tasty too. Paired with a brinjal and tomato gothsu it is ideal for breakfast or dinner.It i a non onion no garlic recipe, suitable for people of all ages.

Black pepper 1 tsp
cumin seeds 1 tsp

Coconut oil 1 Tbsp
Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
Urad dal 1/4 tsp
hing 1/4 tsp
Water 2 cups
Salt to taste
Fresh coconut grated 1/2 cup (optional)

For gothsu
Small brinjals 3-4
tomatoes 3
Green chilli 1
Sambar powder 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 1 tbsp
Cooked dal 1/2 cup
curry leaves
Coriander leaves a few
Mustard seeds1/4 tsp
urad dal 1/4 tsp
cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
methi seeds a few
Turmeric powder a pinch
Hing/asafoetida a pinch
