Let’s welcome Common Threads back for our Centennial celebration highlighting the 1950’s!
During the 1950s, comfort and convenience foods were in. Although not the healthiest, some staples included Chicken a la King, Meat Loaf, Jell-O Salad, and Casseroles like Tuna and Green Bean. Fun fact: Created in 1955 by Campbell’s as a way to sell more cream of mushroom soup, green bean casserole quickly caught on as a quintessential Thanksgiving (and dinner party) side dish. In many ways, it’s the ultimate ’50s dish: It’s a casserole (check), made with nothing but canned green beans (check) and canned cream of mushroom soup (check), topped with canned fried onions (check).
Chef Dubraska will take you into her kitchen to create healthier versions of Tuna Noodle Casserole and Meatloaf (Meatballs on English Muffins). These are some kid approved recipes and so much fun to make with your kids. Chef will also be talking about how she taught her children to love and cook food from an early age, sharing some cleaver ideas to pass the love of cooking onto your children.
Participants will be able to ask Chef Dubraska questions during and after the presentation!
Common Threads is a national non-profit focused on health and wellness by providing cooking and nutrition education to students, parents and communities.
