Ingredients for sambar recipe at home:
– 1 cup (200 gm) toor dal
– mix vegetables (like – carrot, pumpkin, brinjal & drumstick)
– 2 tbs oil
– salt
– 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
– 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
– 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
– 1/4 tsp hing
– 2 dry red chilies
– 2 green chilies
– 10-12 curry leaves
– 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
– 2 tsp sambar powder
– coriander leaves
How to make delicious sambar for dosa, idli, vada or rice:
– Soak the dal for 30 mins. Pressure cook the dal for 3 to 4 whistles with adding some salt & turmeric powder. Keep aside.
– Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds & fenugreek seeds. Fry for a few seconds. Add hing, dry red chili & curry leaves. Fry for 30 sec.
– Add onion & fry till soft. Add tomatoes & fry for 3-4 mins.
– Add Kashmiri red chili powder, sambar powder & salt. Mix well. Add vegetables (you can use any vegetables you like) & mix well. Add tamarind pulp & water. Mix everything well & cook for 5 mins with covering the lid.
– Add onion petals, jaggery, green chilies & boiled dal. Mix everything well & let it cook for 4-5 mins. Add coriander leaves.
– Your Sambar is ready to serve.
