Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups avocado oil
1 egg
1 16 oz whole milk mozzarella cheese, cut into ½ inch sticks
1 Tbsp. milk
½ tsp Italian seasoning
1 cup Aleia’s gluten free Italian bread crumbs or panko
½ tsp. Garlic powder
¼ tsp. Salt
⅓ cup flour
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
Rao’s homemade marinara sauce
½ tsp dried basil
½ tsp garlic powder

Directions:
Preheat oil in an 8 inch frying pan. You want the temperature to be 350 degrees F.

Pour Rao’s marinara sauce in a sauce pan. Add the basil and garlic powder and simmer for 10 minutes.

Prepare 3 dipping stations: station 1 combine the flour and cornstarch in a shallow bowl. Station 2: the egg wash. Combine the egg and milk in a shallow bowl and whisk until combined. Station 3: Combine the bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder in a plate.

Place one cheese stick in the flour dish and coat using your fingers. Shake off any excess flour before dipping into the egg wash. Use a spoon to coat the stick with egg. Use a fork to take the cheese out of the egg and let it drain before placing it into the bread crumbs. Use a spoon to cover the cheese with crumbs. Once coated, repeat the process by dipping the stick back into the flour mixture, then the egg mixture and lastly the bread crumb mixture.

Place the cheese stick on a plate. Once all the cheese sticks are coated, place them in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes to firm up.

Once the oil is hot, place 3 sticks in hot oil using tongs. Cook for about 1 minute turning frequently. Once they are golden brown, use tongs or a slotted spoon to take them out of the hot oil onto a paper towel covered pan.

Serve these immediately with the marinara sauce for dipping. If you have a small chafing dish, this would be a great way to keep these warm while serving.
