@FemkePointl on Twitter asks: what are the best healthy airplane travel snack ideas when traveling by plane for 24 hours? Also what are good options for food at airports?

When Jessica works with our 1-on-1 online coaching clients, she has them send her pictures of what snacks they are bringing on the airplane. We often also post photos of the healthy airplane travel snacks that we eat on our @LiveLeanTV Instagram stories.

Usually these on the go snacks are not going to be the highest protein foods, as they are not the easiest foods to travel with. You could bring a cooked chicken breast in a plastic storage bag or container, however it’s not the most convenient option.

Here are the 5 best healthy airplane travel snack ideas that we usually recommend.

5 best healthy airplane travel snack ideas:
#1. Carrot sticks
#2. Celery
#3. Apples: we love snacking on fruits like apples or any other fruit that doesn’t have a peel. This means they are easy to just grab and eat.
#4. Nuts: nuts are also great for traveling as they don’t have a bad odor and they don’t go bad. Simply add dry raw nuts to a plastic storage bag and enjoy.
#5. Beef jerky: if you’re looking for a healthier protein idea at the airport, beef jerky is a decent protein source. Just make sure you buy the healthy beef jerky.

Other healthy airplane travel snack ideas:
– Protein powder: you can also add protein powder to a plastic bag and add it to your water bottle on the airplane.

– Homemade cookies and macaroons: another snack idea is to prepare your own healthy baked goods such as macadamia nut bites, coconut cacao chip macaroons, and chocolate coconut date bites.

Homemade protein bars: sure you can buy a protein bar at the grocery store or airport, but they may not be the healthiest option.

Why packing and eating a chicken breast on an airplane is not needed:
If you asked other fitness coaches for their best healthy airplane travel snack ideas, many of them would probably recommend you bring a cooked chicken breast in a cooler or in Tupperware with some ice. Sure this is definitely a healthy snack option, however it is not a requirement.

Since you are not on an airplane every day, you can get away with eating bad food at the airport once in a while. However, if you are one of the few people that is at the airport every day, you have to tighten it up, and focus on making better food choices.

Most fast food restaurants at the airport have healthy salad options with grilled chicken, protein smoothies, and protein bars. In other words, although these may not be the healthiest options, they are still considered a healthy enough option, given the current situation.

It’s not the end of the world if you eat an occasional sandwich at Subway or any other fast food restaurant. It’s just one meal.

What are the best healthy airplane travel snack ideas for short flights?
A lot of times you don’t need to have any snacks on the airplane or at the airport. Rather than snacking at the airport, simply eat a healthy breakfast before your flight, and then have a healthy lunch when you get to your destination.
