Cutting out or eating less real foods because these might be higher in calories is absolute bs! These foods are mostly also higher in nutrients and you’re missing out on these if you replace them with some highly processed “magical” foods which maybe taste similar to the real thing but are just a mix of chemicals.

I also was in my era of replacing sugar and fat with artificial sweeteners and low fat products in the past. I was so proud when I could find a way to recreate a recipe lower in calories and sugars. But most of the time it was full of a bunch of chemical substitutes.

Many of these substitutes can cause inflammation and mess with your gut health.

Today, it still makes me proud if I find a way to modify recipes to make them healthier. But if I do so now, you can be certain, that these recipes are modified because they’re now more nutrient-dense, higher in fiber, higher in protein, or just have other good ingredients which are beneficial for your health.
