On September 15, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a company announcement stating that Gias Foods of New York, NY, is recalling two lots of Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, sold under the brand name Bettergoods. The products were sold at Walmart stores nationwide.
The reason for the recall: the pasta may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a form of bacteria that the company says “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
The recall was set in motion after routine sampling by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services showed that the products may contain this bacteria. Good news, though: no illnesses linked to the fettuccine have been reported so far.

The fettuccine is frozen and sold in a 22 oz yellow plastic package. Look on the package for the following information:

Gias Foods has stopped distributing the products and is conducting an ongoing investigation in conjunction with the FDA about the source of the potential contamination.
Health risks
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), intestinal listeriosis typically begins within 24 hours after eating contaminated food and usually lasts one to three days. Symptoms of intestinal listeriosis due to foodborne bacteria include mild diarrhea and vomiting.
However, in some people—especially those who are pregnant, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems—the bacteria can spread beyond the intestines and cause invasive listeriosis, a more serious illness that can develop days or even weeks after exposure.

If you ate any food, including the fettuccine, that’s included in a product recall, call your doctor and let them know if you develop fever, fatigue, and muscle aches specifically, to find out if you have invasive listeriosis. This is especially important to do if you’re pregnant, are 65 or older, or have a weakened immune system, according to the CDC.
What to do if you purchased the recalled fettuccine
