San Marcos shoppers have a new place to stock up on groceries, grab barbecue and, apparently, start their mornings very early.
H-E-B is opening its newest San Marcos store at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, bringing a 114,000-square-foot grocery store to 1074 E. McCarty Lane, just off Interstate 35. The new location is San Marcos’ third H-E-B outpost and the grocery chain’s latest addition to the fast-growing I-35 corridor.
It also brings a first for the city: a True Texas BBQ restaurant.
Customers can expect the in-store barbecue bastion to serve H-E-B’s signature smoked meats, including brisket, along with sides like brisket beans, creamed corn and homestyle potato salad. The restaurant will have indoor seating, so shoppers can turn a grocery run into a barbecue run without ever leaving the store.
The store will also include H-E-B staples such as a bakery, tortilleria, deli, meat and seafood departments, Sushiya sushi and Meal Simple prepared foods. Customers will also have access to curbside pickup, home delivery and a drive-thru pharmacy.
The grand opening celebration begins at 4 a.m. with free coffee, goodies and a DJ, followed by 5:45 a.m. performances from San Marcos High School’s Diamond Dance Team, Drumline and Mariachi Band.
There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony 6 a.m. sharp, after which doors will open to customers. The first 250 customers in line will get free hats and goodie bags, while the first 100 Curbside customers will get free hats.
And yes, there will be barbecue and seafood demonstrations at 11 a.m., along with an appearance from Texas State mascots Boko and Koko from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. — because if there’s one thing H-E-B is going to do, it’s go all out for a grand opening event.
