HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 26, 2026 – High Point University’s Board of Stewards raised $10,000 for West End Ministries during the spring semester. It has become an annual tradition for the student leadership group to commit their philanthropic efforts to help West End Ministries, a local nonprofit that assists people in the city of High Point.
Students who serve on the board also volunteer monthly in West End’s food pantry, where they learn firsthand about food insecurity and the ministry of Leslie’s House, the nonprofit’s shelter for homeless women in need of a safe place to stay.

“Our partnership with West End Ministries is so valuable because it gives us as a board the opportunity to provide support for those in need in our community,” said Emerson Hansen, president of the Board of Stewards and a senior strategic communication major from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. “For me, I find partnering with West End Ministries to be incredibly fulfilling because not only are we serving our community, but we are serving the Lord. Both the Board of Stewards and West End Ministries understand that to best help those around us, we must have God at the center. It’s a joy to serve alongside West End Ministries.”
In addition to West End Ministries, the board has supported the local Salvation Army’s Angel Tree to provide Christmas gifts for 100 children and the Ministers Conference’s Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarship.

“We have had the honor to be partnering with the HPU Board of Stewards now for many years, and every year they continue to amaze me,” said Brad Bowers, executive director of West End Ministries. “Faithfully, they come every month and give their time serving in our food pantry and anywhere we need help. They are here to serve and give back to the community. They also raise funds each year to go into our homeless shelters, and that partnership just last year alone helped get 247 women facing homelessness off the street. We couldn’t operate without great partners like the Board of Stewards.”

The Board of Stewards’ partnership with West End Ministries is about more than service, said Rev. Dr. Preston Davis, HPU’s vice president and minister to the university.
“It’s about remembering that we belong to one another,” Davis said. “These students are intentional about building relationships not only with those providing care through food assistance, shelter and afterschool programs, but also with those receiving that care. They understand that serving others is not simply about what we give, but about the relationships we build and the community we become together.”
