Neer Kozhukattai or Thanni Kozhukattai is a very traditional recipe. Neer Kozhukattai in Tamil means steamed rice dumplings / steamed rice balls cooked in water. It is a very easy and a quick breakfast / dinner recipe. It requires very less ingredients. Except for the soaking part, it can be made in just about 30 mins time. It’s almost a forgotten recipe but in olden days, it used to be made very frequently in South Indian homes. I happened to learn this recipe from my cousin. Since it is healthy and low in calorie, it is considered as one of the good weight loss recipes.
The Rice Coconut dumplings are cooked in water and they are served along with the water in which they are cooked, with some spicy chutney as accompaniment. It tastes yummy and the water is extremely healthy. The water in which it is cooked (Kanji), is also a good body coolant. Have a look at the recipe card.
