Potatoes have several health benefits. Potatoes are a good source of nutrients, including potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6. They also contain smaller amounts of protein, fiber, and other nutrients. Here are some potential health benefits of potatoes:
– Weight management: Potatoes are low in calories and can be a good choice for people trying to lose weight. However, keep in mind that the way potatoes are prepared can significantly increase their calorie content. For example, fried potatoes or potatoes topped with cheese, bacon, and sour cream can be high in fat and calories.
– Heart health: The potassium in potatoes can help to lower blood pressure, which may reduce the risk of heart disease.
– Digestive health: Potatoes are a good source of fiber, which can help to promote regular bowel movements and prevent constipation.
– Brain function: The vitamin B6 in potatoes may help to improve brain function and support healthy brain aging.
– Immune system support: Vitamin C is an important nutrient for supporting a healthy immune system. One medium potato contains about 45% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.
It’s important to note that it’s not just the potato itself that can be healthy, but also the nutrients found in the skin. So, when possible, try to eat potatoes with the skin on to get the most nutritional benefits. But for this recipe we used potatoes without skin.
