Airline passenger makes sourdough bread on flight to Spain to give to her sister!

The creator of the video posted this on social media. “The first leg of my flight was Dallas to Chicago. The bread was mixed on the second and longest leg of the trip, Chicago to Barcelona. I flew with American Airlines. It’s important to note that I was so mindful of being quiet, brief and respectful of my seat mates that no other passengers noticed and the crew members didn’t notice or didn’t say anything. My bag was inspected by TSA in Dallas (probably because the flour looked suspicious) and it passed the inspection.

“It was a fun experiment loved by my audience of bread and gluten lovers, but I am aware now that it could have been harmful to Celiacs and I do not want this to become a trend. I figured it would be ok, since they serve bread and meals with gluten on the plane, but I have learned from the comments that Celiacs can have a reaction from being exposed to the flour in the recirculated air of the airplane. In addition to that, the results weren’t even that great given that altitude, humidity and temperature affect sourdough and the conditions weren’t ideal for a great loaf of bread. I know some people were concerned about germs, but I was mindful to use sanitizing wipes on all surfaces and hand sanitizer before and after handling the dough. The air is also pretty clean, as some commenters added, and I wouldn’t fly if it wasn’t.

Since I have been given this opportunity to get my story out, I would like to add that I am a content creator that has inspired thousands of people to change the way they bake so that they can spend less time in the kitchen and more time with their families while blessing their communities with good, healthy bread, thanks to the two-pan method of baking that I have popularized. I had good intentions when creating that content on the plane and would hate for this episode to take away from my contributions to the sourdough community. I will continue seeking ways to entertain and educate my audience of bread lovers, but in a more mindful way.”
