For Tadka (Tempering)
• 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
• 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
• 2 garlic cloves (chopped)
• A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
• 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
• Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Ingredients for Rice
• 1 cup basmati rice
• 2 cups water
• Pinch of salt
How to Make Dal Chawal
Wash the dal properly and pressure cook it with water, turmeric, tomato, green chilli, and salt for 3–4 whistles.
Once cooked, mash the dal lightly for smooth texture.
Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, garlic, hing, and let them crackle.
Add red chilli powder and pour this tadka over the cooked dal.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
For rice:
Wash basmati rice until water runs clear.
Cook with water and a pinch of salt until soft and fluffy.
Serve hot dal over steamed rice for the perfect comfort meal.
