Patra Ni Macchi is a Parsi-style steamed fish preparation, smeared in coriander chutney and wrapped in banana leaf. It is usually served at weddings, but you can always treat your guests at home.
PS: If you like the taste of coconut, you can use it instead of coriander!
Serves: 1 person
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Ingredients:
• 1 small Silver pomfret
• 2 tbsp Green coriander (chopped)
• 1 no. of Green chillies
• 2-3 no. of Garlic cloves
• 1 tsp Fresh ginger
• 1 tsp Lime juice
• Salt to taste
• 1/4 tsp Turmeric
• 1/4 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
• 1/2 tsp Oil
How to make it:
• Clean and gut the fish, give 2 deep incisions on its belly
• Rub salt, turmeric and red chilli powder. Smear it well. Keep the fish aside.
• Grind green chillies, ginger, garlic and coriander into smooth paste (chutney), add lime juice. Mix thoroughly.
• Marinate with fish with the green chutney for 30 mins
• Carefully wrap the fish in a banana leaf smeared with oil. Cover fully. You can use aluminium foil also.
• Boil enough water in a deep vessel or idli maker. Place the fish on a sieve and over boiling water. Make sure that the water should be boiling.
• Cover it and steam it for 4-5 minutes or till cooked.
• Take the fish out. Place it on the plate and gently uncover it.
