The company behind the “treat of the summer” has recalled an array of its frozen fruit items after foreign matter was found.

Atomic Changes Pty issued an alert on Wednesday for four types of Bomberry snacks that were available in Woolworths and other supermarkets like IGA and Drakes.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) said metal was discovered in some of the products, which could cause illness or injury if eaten.

“Consumers should not eat this product,” the food safety authority said.

“Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

Chocolate dipped frozen fruit products have been ‘flying off the shelves’ recently

The $11.90 snack has been incredibly popular in recent weeks as the weather warms up.

Bomberry and Tru Fru, another brand that sells chocolate-dipped frozen fruit, have been flooded with demand as Aussies catch on to the treat.

A Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle that sales for Tru Fru jumped nearly 50 per cent last week when temperatures soared in some states.

“Chocolate-covered frozen fruit is shaping up to be one of the treats of the summer, with customers loving that combination of refreshing frozen fruit and indulgent chocolate,” they said.

Marcus Anderson, the category manager for ice cream, frozen dessert and fruit at Woolworths, similarly told Yahoo Lifestyle they were seeing “massive demand”, with Tru Fru and Bomberry products “flying off the shelves”.

“Frozen fruit sales always surge heading into the warmer months, and our teams are working hard to keep stock moving so shoppers can get their hands on it all summer long,” he said.
