Procedure:
How to make Ragi Modak:
1. Today lets check out how to make ragi modak. Very delicous and healthy snack recipe.
2. Heat a pan and to this add 2 cups of water. Then to this add 1/2 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of oil. Let this come to a boil. Now its nicely boiling, so simmer the flame and add 1 cup of rice flour and 1 cup of ragi flour. Mix it well and make sure no lumps are formed. Now all the ingredients has come together well so off the flame and transfer it to a mixing bowl and allow it to cool completely.
3. Meanwhile lets make the stuffing. To another mixing bowl, add 1 cup of grated coconut, 1 cup of powdered sugar and 1/2 cup of powdered roasted bengal gram. Mix all the ingredients well. If you like cardamom flavor you can add a pinch of cardamom powdered in the stuffing. Now its nicely mixed and our stuffing is ready. Set this aside and back to our dough.
4. The heat has reduced, so start to knead. Knead until you get a nice and smooth dough. Now we have a smooth dough, so pull out a small portion and make a ball out of it. Then roll it into a cylinder and keep it ready.
5. Today I have taken a modak mould. Apply a drop of oil or ghee to the inner portion and grease it well. Close the modak mould and shape the dough like this. Make a well in the centre for the stuffing. Now fill a tsp of stuffing in the well. Using another small pieece of dough seal the modak. Now open the modal mould and our modak is beautifully shaped.
6. Like wise make all the modaks and keep it ready. Place it in an idli plate and place it in an idli cooker. Close with a lid and let this steam for 10 minutes in medium flame.
7. Its been 10 minutes now, so lets open and check. The ragi modaks are nicely cooked and ready. Give this a 5 minutes rest time and you can enjoy it nice and hot with your family and friends.
