Chyawanprash Homemade
Chyawanprash is an ancient formulation and product. We all know that Chyawanprash is full of nutrients, sticky dark-colored paste and is among the best sources that can boost the immunity. Also, Chyawanprash is a time-tested Ayurvedic formulation of herbs and spices that helps protect the body from all bacterial and viral infections. It is also believed that ‘Chyawan’ was the name of the sage for whom this Ayurvedic formula was invented to restore his youth and vitality, while ‘Prash’ means ‘specially prepared food’. Appropriate for the people of all age groups, this age-old preparation is the best example of the richness of Indian herbs and spices. According to health experts, the key benefits of Chyawanprash includes boosting the immune system, nourishing the mucous membrane and clearing the respiratory passages.
Chyawanaprash is usually consumed directly or along with warm milk or water . The recommended consumption is usually about 1 tsp twice a day.
Ingredients for Homemade Chyawanprash Recipe are:
12 or 1.5 cups of gooseberry/amla
8 green cardamom
1.5 tablespoon peppercorn
1 medium cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
2 tablespoon fennel seeds
10 cloves
1 cup ghee
1.5 cup jaggery
1 cup honey
Preparation for Homemade Chyawanprash recipe:
First of all, wash 1.5 cups of gooseberry in cold running water and then pressure cook it in water for 1 whistle. Allow them to cool and then de-seed them gently.
Now, take 6 green cardamom, 1.5 tablespoon peppercorn, 1 medium cinnamon stick, 1 tablespoon cumin seeds, 2 tablespoon fennel seeds and grind them to a fine powder.
Take a non-stick pan and once heated, add ghee to it.
Add the de-seeded gooseberries and saute till the oil leaves the sides of the pan.
Then, add the spices powder and let it cook until the mixture turns a little sticky and come off the sides of the pan.
Next, add 1.5 cup jaggery and 1 cup honey into this and cook on medium heat for 5-8 minutes.
Allow it to cool and your organic Chyawanprash is ready to fight the cold. Keep it in air-tight container.
Amla is a primary ingredient of Chyawanaprash which makes it rich in Vitamin C. The number of herbs used may vary from 25 to 80 but the main ingredient of all Chyawanprash is amla. Other chief ingredients are:
