Instant Sooji Appam | Rava Appe | Healthy Breakfast Recipe | Flavors Of My Plate

We all struggle to come up with new ideas and recipes for lunch box and breakfast. Moreover it’s a hassle to feed veggies to your kids. Even if you give your kid’s favorite dish in their lunch box the lunchbox is never empty.

So, today in this video we’ll make Sooji Appam or Rava Appe which is loaded with veggies. It is very easy to make and just needs 15 mins of your time if you do the prep work beforehand.

So, let’s begin with the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

For making Sooji Appam:

1. Sooji/ Rava/ Semolina: 2 cups
2. Curd/ Yogurt: 1 cup
3. Veggies: of your choice
4. Curry Leaves: 8-10
5. Mustard Seeds: 1 tbsp
6. Baking Soda: 1 tsp
7. Red Chili Powder: 1 tsp
8. Salt to taste
9. Oil: for brushing
10. Water: 3/4 cup

For making Chutney:

1. Roasted Peanuts: 1/4 cup
2. Coconut: 1/4 cup
3. Coriander Leaves: handful
4. Green Chili: 1
5. Curry LeaveS: 5-6
6. Mustard Seeds: 1 tbsp
7. Salt to taste
8. Oil: for tempering

METHOD:

For making Chutney:

1. In a blender add roasted peanuts, coconut, coriander leaves, green chili, salt and water.

2. Blend everything into a smooth paste.

3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds starts crackling switch off the flame.

4. Take out the chutney in a serving bowl and add the tempering. Enjoy!!

For making Sooji Appam:

1. In a bowl add sooj, curd, salt and red chili powder. Mix well.

2. Add little water at a time and make a smooth and lump free batter.

3. Cover the bowl and let the batter rest for 15 mins.

4. After 15 mins add the veggies and mix well. Add little water if you think the batter has become too thick after adding the veggies.

5. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds starts crackling switch off the flame.

6. Add this tempering in the prepared appam batter.

7. Take enough amount of batter in a separate bowl and add baking soda in it. Add the baking soda when you’re ready to make appes and mix well. The batter will become fluffy after adding the soda. Do not overmix after adding the baking soda.

8. Heat an Appam pan and brush oil in each of the cavity.

9. Now fill each cavity with a tablespoon of appe batter . Cover the lid of the pan and let it cook for 10 minutes on low heat.

10. After 10 minutes take off the lid and flip the apples one by one. Brush oil on each appes and again cook for 5 minutes on low heat.

11. Once done take out the appes in a serving plate.

12. Serve the Sooji Appam/ Rava Appe hot with tomato ketchup and prepared chutney. Enjoy!!
