Al Spoler visits Martha’s Table, a community development organization in Washington, D.C. that provides fresh produce to people in need. One of the items this week is Tuscan kale, grown in the dead of winter in a giant greenhouse on Baywater Farms in Salisbury, MD. Grown hydroponically, the kale makes its way to local grocery stores and restaurants, including the non-profit food truck SevaTruck, which provides free, nutritious meals. Today they’re serving up hot Tuscan kale soup, and Al gets a taste.
